MULTICULTURALISM IN THE UNITED KINGDOM.
Last Thursday, 17th December our good friend Iain Candlish lectured about Multiculturalism in the UK. I reckon that the presentation allowed the EOI Miranda students to know more deeply how British society is formed and how it works.
In the past, London, the Metropolis of the big, economic and commercial British Empire, traditionally received a lot of immigrants from their old colonies encouraged by the knowledge of the language. These people contributed to the economic growth of the country from the arrival of the first emigrants from the Caribbean colonies in 1947 (after the Second World War).
Nowadays immigrants continue arriving to the country because the UK remains as one of the wealthiest and most powerful nations in the world and it has a good welfare state. Around 8 million immigrants, from all over the world, live now in the UK including 120.000 Spanish speakers.
But remember that if you want to be a British citizen, you have to pass a British citizenship test, and you must study hard.

I can't easily go to the extra activities because of my job or my lack of free time but I think these activities are absolutely important and obviously interesting to improve our English.
This time I could go to the conference and genuinely I enjoyed it a lot. Firstly, because it was a pleasure to see Iain again and then because it was really interesting to know some things I didn't know about multiculturalism in UK.
At the same time the subject of the conference made me think about the opportunities, the beautiful mixture of people and also the problems of multiculturalism. But the most important thing for me was that I understood almost everything of the conference.
To sum up, it was a success, really interesting and a good way and opportunity to improve my English.

On 17th December 2015 I attended a conference organized by the Official Languages School in Miranda de Ebro.
The speaker was Iain, who was our assistant teacher last year. The speech was about multiculturalism in England, and it was really interesting and dynamic.
We enjoyed for two hours, learning more about the multiple cultural traditions within a single jurisdiction and how it has affected and affects society.
Really, it was a pleasure to see Iain another time because he enjoys teaching English, he speaks very clearly and he involves students in the precious learning process.

La conferencia de Iain me pareció muy buena por dos razones:
Primera porque al conferenciante se le entiende muy bien y se esfuerza. Además se nota su dedicación y el cariño que tiene a Miranda y a la Escuela de Idiomas.
En segundo lugar por el tema que es muy actual.
Y al final estuvo muy bien hacer la encuesta para poder residir en GB. Una pena, pero a mí no me hubieran dejado 😀😀😀.
Enhorabuena por vuestro empeño en que aprendamos nuevos idiomas. La verdad es que es una suerte para Miranda tener esta Escuela Oficial de Idiomas.

La conferencia en la EOI sobre MULTICULTURALISMO presentada por Iain Candlish estuvo muy organizada y bien trabajada. Fue muy interesante.
Iain resumió muy bien las ideas del MULTICULTURALISMO y resaltó los temas principales tales como comida, deporte, colegio, idioma,etc.
La conferencia fue participativa e interactiva (con buen uso de audiovisuales).

Me gustó mucho el tema que Iain eligió y más aún cómo nos lo presentó.

La conferencia en la EOI sobre MULTICULTURALISMO presentada por Iain fuemuy buena.
Como siempre, Iain se preparó a conciencia su exposición. Lo hizo de manera ordenada, bien documentada y amena. El tema era interesante, actual y muy útil para conocer la realidad cultural británica.
La comprensión oral fue perfecta.
Como única pega, decir que quizá en un espacio más pequeño los asistentes se habrían animado más a participar, pero tampoco disponemos de un espacio de tamaño intermedio entre un aula y el salón de actos...
En resumen, muy bien.
